Though the ACL weekend is typically one of fun and a celebration of music, the devastating fires across Central Texas weren't far from mind.

As a part of the city’s burn ban, smoking is not allowed at the music festival. Police will be on patrol issuing warnings and possibly ejecting violators of the rule.

"The officers, again, their role is education, telling people to be mindful of the dangers, letting them know to please put out their cigarettes," Lt. Todd Smith with the Austin Police Department said.

Many festival-goers are helping out when and where they can.

John Bendele is volunteering at the festival to help raise money for wildfire relief.

"It's giving back to the state, back to our local community, helping people out that can't help themselves," he said.

ACL performing band Foster the People not only discussed the fires on stage, they also organized a group of their fans to help collect donations as people entered the park.

"The donations that are coming in are a lot more than I thought,” Bendele said. “You know, you think of a dollar, a few cents. I mean, there are people putting in a lot."
