LUBBOCK, Texas – Chassidy Fussell scored a game-high 27 points and Imani McGee-Stafford picked up her 10th double-double of the season, but the Texas Women’s Basketball team fell to the Texas Tech Lady Raiders, 69-62, on Sunday afternoon at United Spirit Arena.

Returning from halftime with Texas down nine points, Fussell spurred a second-half comeback for the Longhorns with 20 points in the period, including four makes from behind the arc. But Texas Tech prevailed with clutch shooting down the stretch to earn the win at home. Texas outshot the Lady Raiders in the game, 51.1 percent to 36.7 percent, and also outrebounded them 39-28, but UT committed 24 turnovers to the Raiders’ five, which Tech converted into 26 points.

McGee-Stafford recorded her fourth double-double in six games with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Empress Davenport added 10 points, her fourth-straight game in double digits, and played all 40 minutes for the Longhorns.

UT started the game on a 9-2 run thanks to strong play inthe frontcourt. McGee-Stafford and Nneka Enemkpali scored the Longhorns’ first 13 points but each picked up a pair of early fouls to limit them the rest of the half. Texas led 19-14 before the Lady Raiders embarked on a 15-0 run to take a double-digit lead.

The Longhorns opened the second half on an 11-1 run spurred by eight Chassidy Fussell points to take a brief lead at 38-37 with13:12 to play. But Tech responded with an 8-2 run of its own to reclaim control. The Raiders would go up by as many as 10, and Texas would get no closer than five the rest of the way.

Chynna Brown’s 16 points led Texas Tech (19-7, 9-5 Big 12) and Casey Morris and Kelsi Baker added 15 and 14, respectively.

UT (9-15, 2-11 Big 12) returns home to take on Kansas this Wednesday, Feb. 20, in a 7 p.m. game at the Frank Erwin Center. The game will be televised nationally by Longhorn Network.
