Tennis was an easy choice for Lauren Parten.
"I like being outside, and there's so many different challenges," she said. "It's more of a mental sport, and you don't have to be particularly active or fit to play tennis."
Parten was a four-year letterman and ranked third in singles on her team, but if you're expecting some tough athlete, you've got the wrong girl. Parten is as silly as they come.
"I don't like to take things too seriously, and I'm always serious in school, so tennis is my 'do whatever' deal," she said.
When it comes to academics, Parten owns the halls.
"I'm the valedictorian of the class of 2014," she said.
And the Marble Falls High School senior is too full of life to let academics slow her down. She just went to prom, which isn't super impressive but shows she knows how to balance things.
"I definitely learned how to time manage, and that will be really helpful when I go to college," Parten said.
Behind the big smile and friendly attitude is a young woman who has given her all to be the best.
"If you want to be successful, you have to work at it and it is not just something that is going to be handed to you," Parten said. "You definitely have to make a lot of sacrifices, and you definitely have to prepare yourself for that."
Lauren will be attending Texas A&M in the fall. She plans on being pre-med so she can become a dentist.
