IRVING, Texas -- The Big 12 Conference announced Monday the selection of Texas freshman center Imani McGee-Stafford as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week. The voting was conducted by a panel of media covering Big 12 women's basketball.
The accolade is the fifth weekly honor for McGee-Stafford. She earned previous recognition from the Big 12 Conference on Nov. 26, Jan. 28, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11. This is also the seventh weekly honor for a Longhorn under first-year head coach Karen Aston, as sophomore forward Nneka Enemkpali was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Nov. 12 and Nov. 26.
McGee-Stafford averaged 13.5 points and 12 rebounds in Texas’ win over Kansas and loss at No. 1 Baylor last week. She recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds against Kansas. It was her fifth double-double in the last seven games. The freshman center pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and added nine points and four blocks at Baylor. McGee-Stafford shot 55 (11-of-20) percent from the field and 83.3 (5-of-6) percent from the charity stripe in the two games.
Texas resumes Big 12 Conference action Tuesday evening when it hosts TCU (8 p.m. CT, Longhorn Network).
