Javan Felix scored a career-high 20 points and distributed seven assists and Texas overcame a poor shooting performance to beat Texas State 75-63 on Saturday night at the Erwin Center.
Texas (6-4) shot just 39.7 percent from the floor compared to the Bobcats, which shot 34.5 percent. The Longhorns did hit 17 of their 21 free throws while Texas State converted just 18 of its 30 chances from the line.
Felix, a freshman point guard, scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half and took over the game in the final six minutes with the Bobcats within four at 58-54.
Jonathan Holmes added 14 points and 10 rebounds for Texas, Julien Lewis scored 13 points and Sheldon McClellan added 10.
Matt Staff led Texas State (4-6) with 15 points and Reid Koenen added 10, all in the second half for the Bobcats.
