Just like that, it was all over--Austin’s inaugural U.S. Grand Prix wrapped up Sunday.
Hamilton – who won the last U.S. Grand Prix in Indianapolis in 2007 – made a late pass at turn 12 to take checkered flag for the win.
Sebastian Vettel with Red Bull racing was highly favored to win the race after landing the pole position during Saturday’s qualifying round. He came in second followed by Fernando Alonso with Ferrari.
Mark Webber, Vettel’s teammate, was disqualified earlier on in the race, which helped free up the top three spot for Alonso.
The Circuit of the Americas estimated 117,429 attended Sunday’s race. Fans were pleased with F1’s latest location, many of them taking part in all downtown has to offer for Austin Fan Fest.
However, not all area businesses were pleased with the F1 crowds, who seemed to steer clear of local joints.
