For many, the holiday season isn’t just a season of giving gifts, but also giving back.
The Capital Area Food Bank is always looking for additional helping hands, and the need for volunteers is especially great at its North Austin location.
At the North Austin pantry patrons are able to browse the shelves and actually select the food they need.
“Before the doors open, there’s a long line that just goes down the street and driveway of people waiting to get food,” Joanna Linden with the food bank said. “The need is growing. One in every five Central Texans is food insecure.”
At least 20 volunteers are needed at all times to keep the operation running.
Their pantry is located at the Austin Stone Community Church off of St. John's Avenue on the west side of Interstate 35.
Volunteers are welcome there Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. until noon.
