Nancy Pelosi, the top Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives, made a special stop in Austin Monday to speak about what she calls a new economic agenda for women.
In her speech at the Austin Community College Eastview campus, the former speaker of the house outlined her efforts to guarantee equal pay for women and increase minimum wage.
Pelosi says although there have been successes for women, such as the Family Medical Leave Act, more work is needed to help women in the workforce.
"We don't just want women to be well-paid employees, as Mayor Pro Tem (Sheryl Cole) mentioned. We want women to be entrepreneurial, to be employers, to be women leaders in our society."
Pelosi's speech on Monday coincided with Women's Equality Day. It's the anniversary of the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote.
