A city council election in Edinburg, Texas could be the first test of the newly implemented voter ID law. It's already leading to a spat between one attorney for the Mexican American Legislative Caucus and the state's attorney general.

In Monday's episode, we look at what both parties have to say, and talk to local election officials about the upcoming changes.

RPT Chairman Returns

Republican Party of Texas Chairman Steve Munisteri returned to Austin Monday, after a trip to Boston for the Republican National Committee meeting. He talked about his new role in deciding how both the national primaries and the national conventions shake out in the future, along with what will be perhaps one of the most interesting GOP primary seasons in our state's history.

A special prosecutor has been assigned to handle the criminal complaint filed against Gov. Rick Perry. District Judge Robert Richardson appointed San Antonio attorney Michael McCrum Monday. The watchdog group Texans for Public Justice claims Perry abused his power and broke several laws when he threatened to veto funding for the Travis County Public Integrity Unit.

The Quorum Report's Harvey Kronberg joined us to talk about that development, along with a controversial tweet sent out by Attorney General Greg Abbott.
