Austin athletes faced 12 intense challenges on Saturday morning, from burpees to pull-ups.

"We've got probably four tests that deal with speed and endurance and running,” said Lou Earle of Austin Fit Magazine. “We've got about four tests that deal with power and strength and coordination and then we have four tests that deal with kind of everything else."

The goal of the challenge? To determine who is among the fittest in Austin.

"In our August issue we will do a big spread,” Earle said. “ The whole magazine will be dedicated by and large to the winners of the contest."

Athlete David Garza is no stranger to the pages of the magazine, but the title and publicity are not what attracts him.

"I love it because it brings all of the community together,” Garza said. “It brings CrossFit, it brings Castle Hill, it brings Ride -- everybody that’s involved in the fitness community here at once as a celebration of fitness.”

For others it's about just completing all 12 challenges.

"I'm kind of doing it just more recreational and just kind of seeing how I can do at my own ability," said Hiliary Kolb, another competitor.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Texas Military Forces Historical Foundation to support the Texas Military Forces Museum at Camp Mabry. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
