A federal judge has ordered a psychiatric assessment for Bryce Reed, the 31-year-old former West paramedic accused of possessing bomb-making materials, according to the Waco-Tribune Herald.
Reed will remain in the McLennan County jail until he can be transferred to a federal prison medical facility, according to the Waco newspaper.
Reed was arrested on May 10 and charged with possession of bomb-making materials. According to an arrest affidavit, a small section of pipe and several pounds of chemical powders were found in an Abbott home and attributed to him.
Reed pleaded not guilty to the charge last week and--through his lawyer, Jonathan Sibley--Reed said he had “absolutely” no involvement in the April 17 explosion at West Fertilizer which killed 15 and leveled much of the small McLennan County town.
Authorities have not accused Reed of any wrongdoing in connection to the blast.
