Georgetown man sentenced to 20 years for child porn

A Williamson County judge has sentenced a Georgetown man to 20 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography.

The Texas Attorney General’s Cyber Crimes Unit arrested Robert Beecher Cameron, 58, in June after the agency was contacted by Pennsylvania authorities.

Law enforcement officers in Montgomery County, Pa., arrested resident Barry McOwen, 68, on child pornography and sexual assault charges in June 2011. He later admitted to using prescription and allergy medications to drug young girls before assaulting them. He molested his victims, all under the age of 10, over a five year period before he was tracked down by authorities who saw him sharing details of his crimes in online chat rooms.

During investigators’ forensic analysis of McOwen’s computer, they found evidence he shared information and pornographic images from the assaults with others, including someone who appeared to be in Texas.

The Cyber Crimes Unit used the information provided by Pennsylvania authorities to identify Cameron as the Texas resident who communicated with McOwen online about sexually assaulting children. Officers from the unit conducted a search of Cameron’s home in Georgetown and confiscated his computer and media storage devices.

When they processed the equipment they found graphic online chats as well as an extensive collection of child pornography.

Cameron has been booked into prison in Huntsville. According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website, he’ll be eligible for parole on Aug. 24 of this year.
