Students playing in the Bowie Band Wind Ensemble are living proof the show must go on.

Sunday, the band honored their former Band Director Bruce Dinkins with a new piece of music. Dinkins died suddenly in June 2011.

"I think after today, that experience right in there, that was just amazing and I don't think I will ever be able to not play my instrument again," senior Kaci French said.

Now, new director Kimberly Shuttlesworth is conducting the group of teen musicians who are carrying on Dinkins’ work.

"One minute you’re talking to him, one minute he is not there," Shuttlesworth said.

Dinkins spent more than a decade with the high school, working to develop the marching and concert bands.

"At first I didn't know it was real, such an inspirational man has left my life," senior Morgan Paiga said.

Under Dinkins direction, the Bowie band received many accolades.

"I didn't know if I wanted to do band in college or not,” Paiga said. “After my first year with Mr. Dinkins, my freshman year, and all the love and passion he had for music, I knew that's what I wanted to do for the rest of my life." ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
