Thousands of students are converged on the Palmer Events Center with a shared love for science projects.

One of the biggest science fairs in the state, the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival brought about 3,000 bright, young minds to show off science demonstrations they created.

The students—all between third and twelfth grade—explored ideas about insulations, clean energy and harvesting rain water. The students are using this opportunity to learn from their peers and share how they developed their projects.

"When I went to India this summer I saw a lot of rainwater harvesting systems in my father's village, and since we live in an area experiencing drought too, I wanted to see if it would be reasonable to install a system in my house,” Canyon Ridge Middle School student Sami Malpuri said.

The University of Texas will let two of the students attend its High School Research Summer Academy. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
