The City of Taylor wants more business, and now has some incentives to sweeten the deal.

For new businesses coming to the Williamson County town, the city will pay part of their rent for up to 10 months to help them get on their feet.

"We call it our rental assistance program,” Taylor Main Street Director Deby Lannen said. “We offer them up to half of their rent with a maximum of $750 a month and up to 10 months."

The program was implemented in October and has already has attracted a few new shops in town.

"We currently have four businesses that we're helping with their rental assistance, and we've just received an application from another business that's wanting some assistance also," Lannen said.

The deal is catching the attention of entrepreneurs like Brady Huddleston, who owns Spider Monkey Marketing. When he heard about the program, he moved his business from the neighboring town of Hutto to Taylor.

"With them helping take off the stress of paying the rent and mortgage, and whatever on the building, then that just helps you go out and actually focus on what you need to do to get the customers coming in the door," he said.

Brady sad Taylor is working out for him and he looks forward to meeting more incoming shop owners. There is still plenty of space of in town.

"We have a lot of empty buildings in our historic downtown and we're trying to get filled up with businesses that are interesting and exciting for our citizens," Lannen said.

Businesses must meet some requirements to be eligible for assistance. Click here for more information.
