A small Texas town is making a name for itself thanks to Hollywood.
"The Rookie—we had parts of that filmed here. One of the older ones was Hot Spot with Don Johnson,” Taylor Main Street manager Deby Lannen said.
The producers of more than 20 films have shot scenes in Taylor, and more are expected now the community has a new “film-friendly” certification from the Governor's Office through the Texas Film Commission.
The certification means the city has undergone some training, and is committed to working well with incoming production crews.
Becky Tuckfield joined the crowd Friday for a shot at being an extra in the movie Parkland which Tom Hanks is producing.
"It's really exciting that Texas is being able to attract more major motion pictures,” she said. “It's keeping our film community alive.
Another supporter is Stephen Truex. He lives in Hutto, but owns property in Taylor.
Truex shot pool with Nicolas Cage when the movie star came to town for the filming of Joe.
“They were using the little bar next to my building here, to get out of the cold and have coffee, so he walked in and we shot a few balls of pool,” he said. “Just 8-ball."
Truex said the crews were gone within 24 hours. And the townspeople have gotten used to celebrities coming and going.
"Our public is great about leaving the stars alone and not coming in and hoarding over them," Tuckfield said.
