Austin's biggest holiday party has come to an end.

After being cut from the city’s budget two years ago, a concerted effort spearheaded by RunTex’s Paul Carrozza brought Trail of Lights back to the Capital City.

It ended Sunday night, and while there’s a lot of work still to be done, it seems like it was a big hit.

"A constant flow of people for four hours, eight nights in a row,” Carrozza said. “I've never seen anything like it."

After a two-year hiatus, Carrozza was able to revive the holiday festival with the help from local businesses and philanthropists.

"We were able to privatize it and raise the money through sponsorships to completely underwrite the event," Carrozza said.

Between 400,000 and 500,000 spectators took in the free holiday cheer.

"It was pretty cool. I thought the main entrance was pretty cool, a lot of lights." volunteer Hayes Watson.

But what goes up must come down.

While the display's million lights are turned off for now, organizers are already thinking bigger and brighter for next year.

"We're already thinking about what to tweak and now that we know the type of demand there is for it, we want to extend it through New Years next year." Carrozza said.

Organizers are also looking at different parking choices for the area including an expanded shuttle service.
