A trip into the subzero freezer of the Capital Area Food Bank this week may look a little different than usual.

Monday, the Circuit of The Americas donated all the catering leftovers from Formula One weekend to the Capital Area Food Bank.

The donation included food the charity doesn't see every day, like veal, lamb, pita bread and creme fraicheto.

"They gave us three pallets of dairy stuff, milk, cottage cheese, half-and-half, creamery, stuff like that which we already sent out this morning," David Dangerfield with the food bank said.

To put it into perspective, the 8,300 pounds of food donated by the racetrack weighs about the same as six Formula One cars.

The donation came as a surprise to food bank CEO Hank Perret.

"Hopefully this is the beginning of a relationship that, in the future, when there are events, regardless of what they are, out at the track, that they'll call us and have us come pick up what they got left," he said.

Sodexo, the company that supplied the food to the track's concession stands, also offered their leftovers. The food bank sent a truck to pick it up Tuesday.
