Past meets present at Circuit of The Americas. Lewis Hamilton – who won the last U.S. Grand Prix in Indianapolis in 2007 – made a late pass at turn 12 to take the inaugural race in Austin.

Sebastian Vettel with Red Bull racing was highly favored to win the race after landing the pole position during Saturday’s qualifying round. He came in second followed by Fernando Alonso with Ferrari.

Mark Webber, Vettel’s teammate, was disqualified earlier on in the race, which helped free up the top three spot for Alonso.

"You couldn't ask for a better outcome,” Ferrari team fan Salvatore Valentino said. "I never would have thought it after yesterday's qualifying."

Devoted fans like Ricardo Turlan felt certain he would take home the title in Austin Sunday.

Instead, disappointment gives way to anticipation for next week’s race in Brazil.

"It makes Brazil very exciting. That's the one good thing,” Sebastian Vettel fan Ricardo Turlan said. “It will make Brazil a very interesting race."

The Circuit of the Americas estimated 117,429 attended Sunday’s race. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
