Tea Party darling Republican Ted Cruz has won a seat in the U.S. Senate representing the Lone Star State.

Cruz and former state lawmaker Democrat Paul Sadler battled for the seat soon to be vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchison.

On Tuesday, Cruz rallied voters in his hometown of Houston where around 800 supporters are expected to gather at his headquarters as the results roll in.

"If President Obama means what he says on the campaign trail, if he is interested in working to bring people together, to reduce the deficit and get people working then I will work with him,” Cruz said. “But if he is reelected and continues to work down this same path then I will work every waking moment to lead the fight to stop him."

Sadler has faced an uphill battle against Cruz, only raising about five percent of what his GOP contender did.

"I truly believe that anytime America votes it is a day of celebration. And that is why the world watches us,” Sadler said. “Our response is equally important as the right to vote. Our response is that the voters have spoken and it is time to link our arms together and move forward."

However, Sadler has picked up endorsements from several papers in Texas and was able to pull out a last minute campaign ad before Tuesday.

Cruz, an underdog at the time, defeated Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in a July runoff election for the Republican nomination.
