Update -- Austin police have arrested 17-year-old Fidencio Garcia Jr. and 19-year-old Jose Rigoberto Matute in connection to the serial shotgun robbers occurring around Austin.
They have both been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony, and felon in possession of a firearm, a class a misdemeanor, according to APD.
Earlier -- Austin police are asking for the public’s assistance identifying a pair of serial armed robbers they say used a shotgun to rob four convenience stores in the last month.
Police say the pair first robbed a Bread Basket convenient store in South Austin on Sept. 7. About 10 minutes later, they attempted to rob a nearby Stop-N-Shop on South First Street.
Most recently, they have been linked to an armed robbery a Quix Mart near the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. According to police, a shotgun was fired during this robbery, but no one was injured.
The suspects are described as the following:
• Hispanic male
• Mid-teens to early 20s
• 5’8” to 5’10”
• Dark colored bandana covering his face
• Possible tattoo between thumb and forefinger on right hand
He was last seen wearing a long sleeved possibly light green button down shirt, dark colored possibly green baseball cap, black gloves, and black pants.
• Hispanic male
• 5’2” to 5’4”
• White bandana or shirt covering his face in the latest incident
He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, purple and yellow (possibly LA Lakers or LSU Tigers) baseball cap, dark colored pants, and gloves.
