Visitors learned about all the missions that fall under the DPS umbrella Sunday.
As part of Museum Day, boats, helicopters, cars, bikes and dogs were all on display at the Texas Department of Public Safety Historical Museum.
From older model patrol cars to cutting edge crime scene technology, guests peeked into the history of the DPS and got a glimpse into the future of crime fighting.
"From the patrol vehicle, that's actually a boat behind me, to the SWAT team to our helicopter down the way, the Department of Public Safety is many things," Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Robbie Barrera said.
"My favorite thing is the helicopter because you get to sit in the driver's seat," Visitor Brian McGowan said.
The Texas Department of Public Safety was created in 1935 when the Texas Rangers and the Highway Patrol were merged into one department.
