Almost 200 people teed off Saturday at the Officer Jaime Padron Benefit Golf Tournament.

The charity tournament was held at the Taravista Golf Club, a favorite of fallen Austin Police Officer Jaime Padron.

In April, Padron was shot and killed while responding to a call at a North Austin Walmart. The Austin community has come together with law enforcement since his death.

"This is one of those opportunities for members of the community to come out and show their support for an officer that has been killed in the line of duty,” Officer Chris McIlvain said.

Linda Padron-Diaz, Jaime’s sister, said the family appreciates the community’s overwhelming support.

"There's always someone coming up to us and saying we're here for you, we’re praying for you,” she said. “Absolutely, it's helped with the grieving process."

The Austin Police Association says the tournament is expected to bring in between 15,000 and 20,000 dollars.

Padron's family will use that money to go to Washington D.C. where his name will be engraved on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
