Hundreds of people turned out for a rare look inside Austin's Emergency Management Headquarters.
Saturday was the fourth-annual public safety open house at the Combined Transportation, Emergency & Communications Center.
There were activities geared for families like the chance to check out emergency vehicles, as well as games.
People were also invited in to get a rare look at Austin's 911 dispatch floor and learn how to prepare themselves and their families for emergencies.
Organizers say it's just one way they're reaching out to try to get people to prepare for emergencies.
CTECC's mascot, Ready Randy, was also on hand, spreading the message of emergency preparedness.
September is national preparedness month.
