Saturday will be a day of firsts for Texas State University San Marcos.

It's the Bobcats’ first game in the newly expanded Bobcat Stadium and their first home game in their new football conference.

Hundreds turned out Friday to officially dedicate the north side complex, at the same time Texas State students were celebrating downtown.

For months, city leaders have been gearing up for the crowds Saturday's game will bring.

"I always knew that Texas State was a top-tier school and it's the rising star of Texas and this stadium is a perfect example of that," San Marcos city Council Member Jude Prather said.

Prather was in Texas State student government when the decision was made to take the University's football program to the highest level.

Bobcat fans say the new stadium is just the beginning of great things to come at Texas State.

"We know that this renovated stadium will help instill a great measure of pride, both on the academic and athletic side," Denise Trauth, president of Texas State University, said.

In the last four years, more than $50 million has been spent expanding Bobcat Stadium.

The first expansion added a new press box and luxury suites, the latest bowled in the north end zone adding thousands of additional seats.

The Bobcats take on Texas Tech University tonight at 6 p.m. in San Marcos.

This is their first year in the Western Athletic Conference. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
