State Rep. Mark Strama considering mayoral run in Austin

  • Text size: + -

A Texas State Representative is interested in filling a seat on the City Council dais.

Rep. Mark Strama told our Capital Tonight crew at the Democratic National Convention he's thinking about exploring a run for mayor. He says he'll decide after the charter election in the Fall.

Strama, a Democrat, has served in the state legislature since 2004.

He says he got interested in politics after seeing Ann Richards' 1988 keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention. He said that speech inspired him to work on her 1990 campaign against Clayton Williams.

Mayor Lee Leffingwell was re-elected to his second three-year term in May.

He is unable to run again due to term limits. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
