Famed author and women’s rights activist and Gloria Steinem spoke in Austin Wednesday.

Steinem was the keynote speaker at a conference on family violence. In an address titled "Feminism: Past, Present and Future," Steinem said the fight for women's rights is at a tipping point where the issues have majority support.

But, Steinem said, it's also a time when those who are losing power try to fight back.

“We have a very, very severe backlash because it is fundamental to authoritarian, hierarchical mind sets to control reproduction and women are the means of reproduction, so to control us is the beginning of the hierarchical view of the world instead of a circular view of the world," she said.

Steinem also criticized Texas Lawmakers for pulling funding from Planned Parenthood and said the fight for women's rights is tied to other groups' struggle for rights. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
