There was a change in leadership at Fort Hood Wednesday with the retirement of III Corps Command Sergeant Maj. Arthur Coleman.

Sgt. Maj. Coleman handed over the reins to Command Sgt. Major Scott Schroeder in a ceremony at the Central Texas Army post.

"We have come together to make the 'Great Place' greater. I am proud of the accomplishments that have been done. I didn't do it, you didn't do it but we did it together," Sgt. Maj. Coleman said.

As part of his duties, Coleman was responsible for carrying out policies and performance standards for more than 48,000 soldiers at Fort Hood.

"We don't tolerate compromise where soldiers' health and discipline are on the line. We all did it together and I want to personally thank you," Sgt. Maj. Coleman said.

During his time in command he implemented new programs, including a patrol program, where senior soldiers enforce Army standards and regulations.

"We've all come to know these patrols and have seen the improvements with our own eyes," Lt. Gen. Donald Campbell said. "He was the driving force and architect of establishing the first ever fully certified air assault school here at Fort Hood."

With the ceremonial passing of the saber to incoming Command Sgt. Major Schroeder, his successor looked towards the future.

“I will always work to do what is right, I will do my best, and I will treat others as I would be treated," Command Sgt. Major Schroeder said.
