A horse therapy center received a face lift Monday in Georgetown.

The Ride on Center for Kids, or R.O.C.K., got a new kitchen, bathroom and lounge area thanks to the home furnishings store, IKEA.

The horses at the center help kids like Tess Howitz, who is suffering from scoliosis.

"I have scoliosis in my back and I have to make it go away,” she said. "All I want is to get my scoliosis gone."

Susan McCrickard is a volunteer at R.O.C.K. She says the horses have a special ability to heal.

“It’s just a very peaceful place to come. Sometimes when my mind is going in 20 different directions it's nice to come out and hug on a horse and chat with the kids," she said.

R.O.C.K. sees 200 kids a week, but the volunteers will tell you it isn’t just the children who reap the benefits.

"It's a great place if you love horses and you love being around the kids it's a great place to come," McCrickard said.

R.O.C.K. has been around for 13 years. If you want to find out more about what they do, visit ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
