It's been about one year since Red Bull Racing took its first lap around the Circuit of the Americas. Since then, there have been some major changes at the track and there is still a lot of work to do.

Over the next few weeks, work on the U.S. Grand Prix track in southeast Travis County will focus on paving, which includes parking lots, walkways and the track itself.

“We are on schedule. We still have approximately 600 to 700 workers on site every day," Julie Loignon with the Circuit of the Americas said."We're beginning the process known as echelon paving."

Echelon paving requires multiple trucks working in unison. In order to get a smooth, uniform racing surface, workers are going to use three pavers to make three separate laps around the track.

A worker with Austin Commercial, who asked not to be identified, says the paving process will work like an orchestra.

"Everybody's got their own instrument whether it be a paver, a roller, a shuttle buggy or a truck,” the worker said. “They all have to be on the same page marching to the same beat."

When finished, crews will lay about 10,000 tons of asphalt around the 3.4 mile track.

"The end result is going to be a grade one racetrack for Formula One racing," Loignon said.

Work is also continuing on the structures at the Circuit of the Americas. Representatives say the facility will be ready for Grand Prix weekend.
