Officials are assessing the damage caused by an 18-wheeler Wednesday night.

Texas Department of Transportation officials say damage to the Stassney Lane bridge, caused by an 18-wheeler, could cost nearly $180,000 to fix.

Authorities say an 18-wheeler carrying heavy construction equipment hit the underside of the Stassney Lane bridge at about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

If crews have to replace the beam on the underside of the bridge, repair estimates are as high as $180,000. Repairing it would only cost $20,000, but transportation officials say that's not likely.

Austin police said the driver of the 18-wheeler managed to pass under the overpass, but the driver of the big rig behind him suffered minor injuries when debris fell through his windshield.

Officials say the trucking company's insurance will likely pay for the damage, and may foot the bill for cleanup up after the accident.
