More than 30 young men and women are spending their weekend at Camp Mabry.

The scouts from Mexico worked Saturday to complete one of the outdoor service projects. They focused to clear off an old bridge on the U.S. Army post.

The project was made possible by cooperation with Capital Area Council, a Boy Scouts organization. The international relationship began 10 years ago.

"Our scouts that don't speak Spanish and their scouts that don't speak English, they have never had a problem creating troop patrols together, tenting together, competing against each other and with each other,” Art Mata with CAC said. “It’s been an incredible relationship."

After 12 years in the program, Marie Elena Castro Martinez—whose friends call her Male—says she’ll have to call it quits at 22.

"I think it's the greatest thing I've ever done," Martinez said. "I always said I would die with my uniform." ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
