If you hope to spend July 4th on the water at Lake Travis, there are only a handful of places you can drop in a boat.
According to the LCRA, the ramp by Mansfield Dam is the only public boat ramp on Lake Travis available to boaters. It is able to stay open because it can operate until the lake drops below 632 feet
The other 10 ramps are closed because the lake levels are just too low. Right now, the lake is at about 640 feet—which is 28 feet below its average for this time of year.
While levels are low, some regulars say it's still an improvement over last year.
"It got to the point, that when I backed up the trailer the trailer actually went down there was no more ramp left, and this year this hasn't happened,” boater Jimmy Raviele said.
Police will be out in full force during the holiday. It will be a ‘No-Refusal’ day for boaters and drivers.
Ramps are open at Marble Falls, LBJ, and Inks lakes. Only the White Bluff Park ramp is open on Buchanan.
