One person is dead after a car drove into Lady Bird Lake early Sunday morning.

Police have identified 25-year-old Jarrett Ryan Whittington as the passenger who died when a car drove into Lady Bird Lake Sunday morning.

Investigators say 25-year-old Madeline Rackley was driving south in the 5 block of East Avenue just before 2 a.m. Sunday, when the car drove into the lake beneath the north side of Interstate Highway 35.

According to officials, Rackley and 25-year-old passenger Danielle Martinez were able to escape before the car sank to the bottom of the river. Whittington was not able to escape and was pronounced dead around 6 a.m.

Police charged Rackley with intoxication manslaughter. They ask anyone with more information on the case to call the vehicular homicide unit at (512) 974-6981.
