Scorching summer heat is here, and while some of us have the luxury of working inside in the A/C, others have to brave the triple-digit temperatures.
At San Marcos Municipal airport, Line Service Technician Chris Peters directs planes, unloads bags and takes them to the hangar---all under the beating sun.
“You have to keep your wits about you because this is a potentially life-ending job,” he said. “There have been several cases in the news where people walk into airplane propellers.”
Redbird Skyport where Peters works makes sure line techs work in pairs and constantly monitor each others’ health. The company also provides hats and sun block to their employees.
"Try to stay in the shade as much as possible, and you know, avoid being outside as much as humanly possible," Peters said. "But sometimes you can’t do that, and the A/C is your friend. I'm just praying to God we don’t have another 91 days ahead of us but you know, just praying for some rain.”
