With just five months until the United States Grand Prix comes to Austin, some Formula One fans are trying to build excitement for the race and the sport.
The Formula Expo is an event designed to give those new to F1 racing a preview of what's to come.
Tim Kohler is from Dallas. He's already got tickets for November’s race and has been anxiously watching the construction on the track in Elroy.
"This is the first time I can see some things going on that have been actually built," he said. "This will be my first race and I can't wait to see it."
He came to Austin this weekend for the Formula Expo, a new interactive way for F1 fans to get a small preview of the United States Grand Prix experience.
The expo features a chance to get up close to cars, talk to drivers and even take a spin on a simulation of the Circuit of the Americas.
"What we're trying to do is just give a little flavor of that and start people's interest. It doesn't happen overnight, but I think that we can show a few elements that will start to engage people and start their interest," Formula Expo spokesperson Ian Weightman said.
Weightman has been a Formula 1 fan all his life. He said being able to share his excitement in Austin is a dream come true.
"It’s things I've seen as a small child, or things I've watched on television as an adult and now I'm bringing it here," Weightman said. "You get a chance to really experience it for yourself, and being in person at a race track will give you an experience like no other."
Formula Expo runs through Sunday at the Austin Convention Center. You can find more information at formulaexpo.com.
