South by Southwest Interactive Conference features the brightest minds in emerging technologies and the latest in cutting-edge technologies from around the world.

The conference grows bigger each year, and jobs in technology help keep Austin's unemployment at 6.3 percent.

"Samsung has over 150 job openings," Samsung Human Resources spokesperson Charmaine Winters said. "You have several tech companies here in Austin, Texas, where you get the opportunity to really have a large bandwidth of employees who have the education, have the background, to fill those roles."

Austin Community College offers courses for those wanting to break into a job in technology.

"First thing you'd want to do is stop in at one of our career counseling centers and figure out what your options are and what you're really interested in," ACC Vice President of Instruction Mike Midgley said. "

According to school officials, someone starting from scratch can get an associate’s degree in two years if they study full time.

Last year, Samsung hired about 150 employees right out of school.

"We like to stay local and choose the local universities to fill those roles," Winters said. "Over the past two years we've hired over 1,600 new employees into our organization."

Even though the candidate pool is competitive, it's not impossible for someone with no experience to enter the field.

The tech industry provides 13 percent of jobs in Austin. There are 4,000 tech companies in the Austin area. Most of the entry level jobs at Samsung are in the engineering field.
