State Bar dismisses grievance against Williamson County DA

  • Text size: + -

The State Bar of Texas has cleared Williamson County District Attorney John Bradley of professional misconduct in connection with the wrongful, 1987 murder conviction of Michael Morton.

Morton spent 24 years behind bars before DNA evidence cleared him of the murder of his wife Christine. He was exonerated late last year.

Both Morton’s lawyers and Texas Coalition on Lawyer Accountability had charged that Bradley did not live up to his responsibilities to seek the truth when the investigation into Morton’s innocence moved forward in recent years.

Speaking of his vindication, Bradley wrote, "As the report from the Innocence Project indicated, the DA's office acted professionally and ethically in handling the Morton claim of innocence, arising from a 25-year old conviction through a different prosecutor."

Bradley on Tuesday e-mailed YNN a copy of the State Bar letter clearing him of misconduct. Click here to read it.
