President Obama issued a major disaster declaration for Texas late Friday.
The declaration allows federal funding to be available to affected individuals in Bastrop County.
Federal Emergency Management Agency officials will provide federal aid to help with state and local recovery efforts already in place.
Federal assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured or underinsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
More than 1,300 homes and 20 businesses have been destroyed in Bastrop County alone.
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst said he had written two letters to the President urging him to quickly issue a major disaster declaration for the state.
Before the declaration was signed, local firefighters had already received some federal aid which has covered up to 75 percent of firefighting costs.
