Fixing up old cars is more than just a hobby for some.
More than 1,000 people gathered with their hot rods at the Travis County Expo Center for the Lone Star Rod & Kustom Round Up Friday.
Frank Brown drove into Austin from Albuquerque for the event. He is the proud owner of a 1932 candy apple red Ford three window coupe. For him, it's more than just a car.
"It becomes very personal. It becomes an extension of you. I've had cars like this through the years and I've let them come and go, and I regretted it. This one isn’t getting away,” Brown said.
He said he’s invested his time, hard work and tens of thousands of dollars into it.
"[In] a year and seven months I had this car done," Brown said. "I've been doing it for so long it's easy for me. Now, all I do is we wash and wax and drive it."
Every now and then he said he comes to a car show to share one of his loves with other hot rod enthusiasts.
The Lone Star Rod & Kustom Round Up will run through Sunday.
