A summer playground for tubers is quickly turning into a winter wonderland for kayakers.
Next month paddlers from across the country will come to San Marcos to compete in a 2008 Olympic team qualifier.
They'll show off their best moves at the Rio Vista Falls.
The top finishers could move on to earn place on this year's Olympic team.
Local athletes are anxious to compete on their home course.
Event organizers believe this could make San Marcos a winter hot spot for the top paddlers in the world.
"We're hoping that with this event that we're going to be able to basically announce nationally that we have this beautiful place, we have the warm water, and that it's really worth it for people to come here for all their winter training camps," Michelle Kvanli of Power Olympic Outdoor.
The event will also be a qualifier for the Junior Olympics, as well as an opportunity for paddlers of all skill levels to compete.
