Winter is just around the corner and the cold weather that comes with it will likely affect the workout plans of many Austinites.
Central Texas sees its number of freezes each winter, but is exercising in those uncommon frigid temperatures a good idea? Could it even be dangerous?
Not according to pediatrician Dr. Kallanna Manjunath.
"There is no magic temperature to say ‘It’s too cold to exercise outside,’” the doctor said. “It depends on each person’s tolerance. For some people, breathing cold air can cause pain."
A gradual exposure to outdoor air can help increase your tolerance. Some people choose to cover their mouth when it’s below a certain temperature.
"It varies from person to person,” the doctor said. “I've seen people jogging without any difficulty when it's minus twenty, minus thirty, but other shave difficulties early on.”
